But if you are traveling by train, this Mannarasala temple is located at a distance of 10 km from Mavelikkara, 14 km from Kayamkulam and 4 km from Haripad. Mannarasala temple in Kerala state is considered to be an ancient pilgrimage centre for the devotess of serpent gods. Mannarasala Ayilyam, the main festival of Mannarasala temple is celebrated on the ayilyam asterism, corresponds to the month of October/November. On this day, devotees from different parts of Kerala visit this temple to pray for release from sarpa dosha. So whenever you get a chance to visit Mannarasala temple for Ayilyam puja, don't miss your chance. During this day, the idols of serpents in the temple are taken in a grand procession to the illam. Nagaraja, the main idol will be carried by an oldest female member of this illam. Nurum palum, kuruthi, coins, pepper, grains etc are considered as Mannarasala temple offerings. Apart from all this functions on the Ayilyam day, there will be song and dance of the Pulluvans.
